Jeff was born and raised on a farm in eastern Iowa. After graduating from Clinton Community College with and Associate of Arts degree in general studies he transferred to Sheldon Jackson College (SJC) in August of 1987. He met his wife Lillian while attending SJC and after completing his Bachelors of Science degree in Aquatic Resource Management they moved to her home town of Kake, Alaska. While living in Kake Jeff was employed as the Assistant Manager for Gunnuk Creek Hatchery. After enjoying raising their three children (Jonathan, Seth, and Morgan) in a rural community setting for 14 years they moved their family back to Sitka in 2004.
