Klag Bay, located 45 miles north of Sitka, is an important area for the subsistence and sport fisheries. The Sitka Tribe, in conjunction with the US Forest Service and the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, operates a salmon weir to monitor sockeye salmon returning to Klag Lake. The crew housed at the weir also conducts creel surveys to estimate the harvest by subsistence and sport fishers.
